Cycling is popular in Axat we can offer storage at our Gite accommodation and arrange Cycle Hire in Languedoc. The Upper Aude Valley has stunning gorges and good bike routes. Chosen annually as a stage for the Tour de France and women's cycle race 'Tour de Aude'.
Pyrenees fresh air great for walking. Official walks lead through pine clad trails. Fanges forest a lovely picnic spot to enjoy nature and wildlife. Nearby Puilaurens castle is an impressive Cathare fortress. A steep climb on foot to the top will reward you with amazing views over the Haute valley.
Axat boasts the longest River Fishing stretch of 600m a Category 1 river. June 2OO7 the Championship of France was held here. A no kill policy endorsed by Pascal Cognard the three times in a row World Champion.

Follow the road from Axat towards Quillan to Accro Parc Forest Grimp. Tree climbing using rope and harness is well instructed.
Skiing on the French Eastern Pyrenees slopes only a half hour bus ride away. Buses are available from the station at Quillan. Puyvalador, Mijanes, Camurac, Les Angles resorts are less crowded and enjoy more sunshine due to their proximity to the Mediterranean.
