Queribus Chateau at an altitude of 728 Metres on
the Grau de Maury pass. Last to fall in 1255 first
mentioned in 1020. One of the five sons of
Carcassonne built to defend the city. Its said that
it is full of subterranean passages where wind
sweeps through like a long sigh. The horse track
leads to Foix on the famous Sentier trail.

by Catalan Counts of Barcelona. It offers the finest
example of medieval military architecture in Aude.

Montfort. Comprising of old 12th Century and new
14th century architecture. The coat of arms of the
Bruyere family is emblessonrd above the keep.
Montsegur 1207m most famous Cathare castle of
them all. In 1247 210 Cathars chose to be burnt at
the foot of the 'The Pog' (mount) rather than
denounce their faith.

men, women and children. 300 years of persecution culminating in a 40 year war finally
eradicated the Cathare people from Aude Languedoc Roussillon South France. The peace
treaty of Meaux in 1229 forced them to seek refuge in isolated forts high in the Pyrenees.
These ruined fortresses have survived through the ages and bathe in a rare light in different
