Perpignan and Carcassonne airports are both easily accessible on some
of the prettiest routes surrounded by vineyards.

Axat a rural town in Haute Valley with vibrant cafés, restaurants and
bars overlooking the picturesque river Aude. A short stroll from the
accommodation to the centre for freshly baked bread at the excellent
boulangerie which also has a salon de thé. Axat high street has all the
provisions required for your holiday. Two general stores, charcuterie
and delicatessen all offer fresh local produce. A tabac where hiking
maps, fishing permits and postcards are available.

Opposite the Gite a warm open air pool with toboggan slide set high
above tremendous mountain landscape. Journey on the delightful
South France Trans Valle Express along the Pyrenees towards
Perpignan. Wonderful for all ages it runs throughout Summer with
Easter, Halloween and Christmas Specials. Also the bouladrome where
the popular French game of Boules is played is floodlit in summer
evenings.

The Upper Aude Valley invites you to cycle on roads that meander
through deep gorges, and climb to the legendary cols. Axat chosen
annually to stage the Tour de France is well supported by spectators
along the route. The women's cycle race Tour de Aude set off outside
our Gite last year.

Benefit from a Walking holiday in Pyrenees fresh air. Many official
walks lead from the accommodation through pine clad forests. Picnic in
Fanges forest a wonderful place to enjoy nature and wildlife.
Bordering the Ariege and close to Andorra superb mountains and
gorges are awe inspiring.

River Aude Rafting terrific fun for thrill seekers or perhaps ski ing
on the Eastern Pyrenees slopes only a half hour bus ride away.

Puilaurens-Lapradelle an impressive Cathare fortress at an altitude of
697 metres only a quarter hour drive away. A steep climb on foot to
the top will reward you with impressive views over the Haute valley.

A short drive to the busy market town of Quillan through an awesome
gorge with suspended vertical rocks Pyrenees climbing paradise.
Visit Accro Parc Forest Grimp fun for all ages tree climbing using
rope and harness.

The maison is a typical French Gite a large stone house one of only 10
built locally. Spacious accommodation with a spiral staircase. Each
floor has a large lounge, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, separate WC
and fitted wardrobes. Laundry room with washing machine and ironing
facilities. Relaxing garden with sun terrace to enjoy good French
food al fresco. Barbecue and garden furniture. Suitable for families
or groups.
